ProTV in the Workshop — a Feature on Master Luthiery in Reghin

A ProTV crew came to the workshop, here in Reghin, to film how a master violin is born. The result is a feature about the creation process of string instruments — violin, viola, cello, double bass — the way they are still made, piece by piece, by hand.

Why ProTV chose this workshop in Reghin

Reghin is known as the "city of violins" — a town with over 70 years of violin-making tradition, tied to the nearby Gurghiu Valley, where generations of luthiers once sourced their resonance spruce. It isn't a story invented for the press — it's the real reason this small town in Transylvania keeps drawing attention: instruments are still made here by hand, after Stradivari and Guarneri models, with wood chosen piece by piece.

A few words about the workshop, for anyone arriving here from the report

I am a master luthier, and I have worked with wood for over 55 years — I started as an apprentice at eighteen, in 1970, at the Hora instrument factory in Reghin. Since 1995 I have had my own workshop, alongside my wife Anuța and my son, Aurelian. I build the whole range of string instruments — violin, viola, cello, double bass — mostly after Stradivari or Guarneri models, with Carpathian resonance spruce for the top plate and flamed maple for the back and ribs. Every instrument made by hand in the workshop receives a certificate of authenticity and represents, on average, over 300 hours of work.
